Berkshire Hathaway, an investment firm owned by Warren Buffet, has bought a $4 billion stake worth in the Taiwanese chipmaker.
The deal is for the world's largest independent chipmaker, and its biggest customer is Apple.
The stock hit its lowest level in two years last month, due to slowing global demand.
TSMC makes high-tech products for a variety of applications covering many end markets, including smartphones, high-performance computing systems, the Internet of Things (IoT), automotive and digital consumer electronics.
